CuePoints > Settings… > Backup

CuePoints automatically saves copies of your project while you work, so a crash, a power cut or a bad decision costs you minutes instead of a day.

Auto Backup

Auto backup: the master switch. Leave it on. When it's off, the rest of the section greys out and nothing is being saved for you.

Auto backup interval: how often a copy is made. A shorter interval means you lose less if something goes wrong. Backups are small, so there's very little reason to make this long.

Backups to keep: how many old copies are kept before the oldest one is thrown away. This stops backups filling your drive forever. Keeping several is worth it: sometimes the problem is one you only notice an hour later, and you want to go back further than the newest copy.

Backup location: where the copies are written.

• The default keeps them alongside CuePoints' own files, which is fine for most people.

• Custom folder lets you pick your own. Click Choose Folder… and point it somewhere. A folder that syncs to the cloud, or a second drive, means a dead laptop doesn't take the backups with it.

Test Backup File Now: makes one backup right away and tells you whether it worked. Do this once after you change the location; it confirms the folder is writable before you rely on it.

Getting A Backup Back

Backups are ordinary CuePoints project files. To use one, open it the way you'd open any project, File > Open…, then pick the backup out of the folder.

They're named with the date and time they were made, so the newest one is the one at the bottom.

Save it under a new name straight away. That way you still have both the backup and the file you were working on, in case you picked the wrong copy.

Privacy

Send anonymous crash reports: if CuePoints falls over, this sends us a report so we can fix it.

What goes in the report: stack trace, app version and OS. That's a list of what the code was doing at the moment it broke, which version you're on, and which macOS or Windows you're running.

What never goes in the report: your project or media data. No cue names, no track names, no file paths to your show, no audio or video.

It's your choice, and CuePoints works exactly the same either way. Leaving it on is the fastest route to a fix if something ever does go wrong for you.
